November 1, 2010

Talk about an eventful day in sports.

I'm sure that Bud Selig and Major League Baseball is pretty thrilled with Randy Moss & Brad Childress right now...

It is amazing how for about 4 years all Brett Favre has wanted is to be able to throw to Moss and it lasted all of 4 games.  Not that it is unusual for a situation to go south with Moss, but in 4 games?  Obviously this was a power play by Childress who has totally lost this team.  He begged Favre to come back, and less than half way through the season has butted head with the Hall of Fame quarterback.  No one really thinks they are going to bench Brett so when this Moss situation arose he cut him to make it look like he is the man.  No one is buying it. Childress is done.  Should be sooner rather than later so they can implement Leslie Frazier as their head coach before another team gets ahold of him.

As far as the World Series goes, I guess I am proud of the Giants.  I have talked trash about them all year because they really seemed to be a choking team to me during the regular season.  They have no start players, no big RBI producers or OBP guys yet as they say pitching is key and their underrated bullpen as well as the studs at the top of the rotation carried them to a championship.  The Rangers were a good story too, but it didn't seem like they had the attitude and guts to win it.  Overall I am just glad we had a series without Boston, New York or Philadelphia.

  1. Thanks for the update.
I look forward to seeing if your Childress prediction comes true.

The year the Pack won the Superbowl, they were underrated. They just had more heart and a fire in the belly.

As they sing in Damn Yankees, Ya Gotta Have Heart.

  2. Came here from your Ma's blog.

I was rooting for the Rangers, because I'm a Red Sox fan, and the Rangers destroyed the hopes of the Rays, and the Yankees. For that they'll have my undying gratitude. But I was glad Lincecum (sp?) won a World Series; it's a beautiful sight to see him pitch. But I still love Jon Lester more. :)
    Have a good day!

  4. Ditto re series w/o New York, etc. I, too, was rooting for the Rangers - no particular reason - would have rather seen Bobby Cox going out with a bang - ha.
Have you seen the Randy Moss video made by that dj guy Steve Porter - he used Moss quotes and set to music. Pretty funny.

  5. The Giants are an inspiring ball team. Everyone should love their story (I can understand if Phillies fans and Rangers fans have a hard time). No one expected this out of them because they have no big names other than Tim Lincecum. They have no big HR or RBI men. (Their highest paid player is Barry Zito, and he wasn't even good enough this year to make the post-season roster!) They just manufactured runs when they needed them most--usually JUST enough runs to win behind their exceptional pitching. As a lifelong Giants fan, I've been waiting for this a long time and I'm so happy it was THIS team that won the series--no Barry Bonds required. They are the definition of scrappy and the Braves, the Phillies and the Rangers all got it handed to them. This team has earned some respect.

  6. Didn't really care who won the world series since the Twins choked and lost...Dang..our state teams this year...I Yi YI! And, they need to get rid of Childress and not Moss! Give him a chance, not just the 4 weeks... and get rid of Favre too, He should have stayed retired! Anyway, Just came over from your mom's site to read and just HAD to comment. Your little baby boy is SO CUTE!! Wendy

  7. Also one of your mom's readers. :) Also dittoes on no NY, Philly, or Boston in this WS. I'm a crazy, life-long Cardinals fan and when I watched Ken Burns' "10th Inning" recently, it really disgusted me how much time was devoted to NY and Boston to the exclusion of so many other teams...I'll try not to rant in my first comment here. I was more interested in this WS than any other not involving the Cardinals. Not sure why but I really enjoyed the stories of both teams and thought the playoffs this year were particularly exciting all around. As for the Cardinals, I will "wait til next year."

  8. Childress really has a mess over there, doesn't he? That whole team is going down in one big sinking ship if they don't get their act together soon. Of course, as a Packers fan, I couldn't be happier! I can't help but find it somewhat ironic that these saviors (Favre and Moss) who were supposed to resurrect this team and carry them gloriously to the Super Bowl are now looking to be at the heart of their undoing. Ah, irony.

  9. Childress and Favre are like my brother and I were as children - bickering and whining all the time. I'm so sick of hearing about these two. And then Randy Moss got messed up in it all and was made to be the scape goat. I wish Favre would retire. Don't really have an opinion about Childress other than to tell him to shut up. I hope Randy Moss finds a new team because he makes me laugh. More and More, little by little the NFL becomes filled with prima donnas.

  10. OK, Matt, If I am going to follow your blog, we have to come to some kind of an agreement. I will listen to your wisdom/opinions, but there can't be too much smack about Boston teams!! I am a Boston girl and am willing to hear out the other side.... as long as it's not the Yankees or the Jets!!! Do you think we can work on that?
What do you think the chances are of Moss making wavers and ending up back at New England?

  12. I want to add intelligently to this conversation...but I am like the WORST sports person in America. All I know is that it seems like baseball and basketball seasons go on forever at our house : ( I would much rather be watching the Real Housewives : )

All of that said though, I can tell you have a great knowledge of the sport. I hope whoever you want to win, does. We live outside of Philly so we sort of had to root for them : ( I can't believe they got so close 2 years in a row.

Wishing you a wonderful, sunny day in California.

  13. Philly fan here, Patrick Jr! I thought the Giant's deserved to win. Seemed to me like Cody Ross destroyed the Philly's all on his own.

  14. so as much as I LOVED Favre as a Packer, and what he did for our team, he needs to retire.
Maybe Childers got rid of Moss so Favre would retire? Who knows how Childers thinks.
I made my husband's day yesterday. I got him tickets to the Packer/Giant game at Lambeau. His first game since the Ice Bowl. Yes, he's that old.
Great blog keep it up! I'll tell my son about it, and he can talk with you intelligently about sports. Meanwhile, I better stick to your mom's blog. But keep it up!

  15. I, too, am visiting from your mom's blog. It's funny that I should pop over on this particular day, following the World Series. Never in my life have I been a baseball fan, not even remotely, but a few years ago we moved to Dallas and my husband started taking our kids to the Rangers' games. They had such a great time, and while we haven't been here that long, they have become our home team. :) We were excited that they made it to the play-offs, and then kept going. I don't know very much about baseball, at all, but I think that it wasn't just a fluke. Hopefully we'll see them back in the Series again. They are a great team!
I have to say that it was fun and exciting to watch the World Series for the first time (I'm 36! Crazy, huh?) and cheer for our team. And it was exciting even though they didn't win. And I can also say, even as a Rangers' fan, that Tim Lincecum's pitching was amazing. Being a total spaz myself, I can appreciate a talented athlete! :)
